Should this site also include things like:

1 - HTML Reference 2 - Browser and OS peculiarities

This could also be expanded to include

1 - CSS 2 - JS 3 - DOM

but that isn't strictly HTML, though it is something a lot of web developers could benefit from.

For me, an important aspect of a good reference guide is examples. Especially when demonstrating differences.

I'm looking forward to this wiki and I hope I can contribute. As yet, not sure exactly WHAT I can contribute.

Why not

Currently the 1rst goal is to help to give meaningful error message to the 2 html algorithms used in the Firefox HTML validator extension that I wrote too. The goal is that the community of users can improve the help of the error messages. And finally help themselves in next version of the extension.

But I think this website can, of course, do a lot more things like CSS or JS, or simply explain each HTML tag with the differences between browsers, differences in the attributes and so on...

Maybe it is the time to write a extension for the CSS checker of Firefox (it is included per default in Firefox) to point to this site when there is an error . Maybe it would be a good idea for a HTML Validator 0.9x :)

A good way to contribute at this stage is just to hit the "Random Page" link and see if there's any way you can improve an existing page. I've been doing so; it's kind of fun. It might be as simple as identifying a keyword and making it a link, or as substantial as creating whole new articles or such. Tinalles

Front page validation errors?

The front page is showing ten validation errors for me - improperly escaped ampersands in the URLs for the tab:

It seems to be an error in the media wiki software that happens randomly, I do not know when and why. Some developers of mediawiki use the firefox htmlvalidator extension. So, I hope it gets solved one day or another.

Yeah ... it's not there now. Weird. Tinalles 23:08, 15 November 2006 (CET)

On the CSS pages

Well, I just created stub pages for all the CSS Level 1 properties. I had already written proper articles for color, background-color, and border-color, and decided to create stub pages for the rest of them to encourage people to fill out information.

After pasting in all those stub pages, though, it occurred to me that the CSS pages need a slightly different format than the error pages. I didn't create sections for tracking all the things those pages need to have in them. Currently, the pages have sections for:

  • A definition;
  • An example;
  • References.

What they need are:

  • A definition, including
    • Possible values
  • An example (or more than one)
  • Browser support information, including
    • IE 3, 4, 5, 5.5, 6, and 7
    • Netscape 3, 4, and 4.5
    • Gecko based browsers, including
      • Netscape 6, 7, 8
      • Firefox 1.0, 1.5, 2
      • Mozilla, probably just the most recent version
    • Opera 6, 7, 8, and 9.
  • Tips and tricks on how to make good use of this property.
  • References.

Now I'm going to have to go through and re-do all those stubs. Heck.

I've created a new template for CSS pages. I'd like feedback, but in order to keep the main page discussion uncluttered, let's hold any discussion on the discussion page over there. Tinalles 11:43, 25 November 2006 (CET)
